From a friend of mine, on TMI

We were not created to consume as much content as we are consuming.

The only way for my grandparents to enter someone else’s story was if they knew them, or if they got a letter.

I feel like that’s about the amount of weight we were actually created to carry. I’m not just talking about bad news. I’m talking about good and bad. The sheer volume of it all.

As much as I think it’s important to stay connected to what’s happening in our world, remember that you have an actual capacity. You only have so much capacity to carry other people’s stories.

When we stay up-to-date on things outside of our circle of influence, it actually takes away energy from making the biggest difference we can in our real lives and in the lives of those right around us. It makes us VASTLY less effective than we would otherwise be if we stayed in our own lane.

I’ve had some conversations with Christians recently as they’ve talked about some of the things going on in the world, and I’ve come to the conclusion that we either believe God is omnipresent and omnipotent and that prayer works, or we don’t. But God is all-knowing so that I don’t have to be!

I can be moved to pray for the things that break my heart or for the evils going on in the world WITHOUT needing to know all the details.

I don’t need to know all the deplorable details about a situation to pray about it and have influence that way.

Humans by nature are voyeurs who are entranced by the macabre - but we who are new creations should be doing things differently.
